Garden Diary

December 2006
This fall has been very warm - no freezing of the ground into late December, nice days in the 50's and 60's - highly unusual.

January - February  2007
The new year hit with a bang!  Rather a frozen bang - January went into the freezing weather and then the very freezing weather.   Only a little snow but enough to protect the perennials.  Then the bitter cold continued into February and finally, the middle of the month we got our first big snow storm in 2 years.  Here on the mid coast of Maine, we got 10-12" of snow and then the rain started, soaking the fluffy snow, making it very heavy and leaving a 2" coating of ice on top of the snow - very bad for plowing!
